The Ride To Roots team has been hard at work preparing a new Raid for motorcycles over 599cc . This is the AFRICA TRAIL RAID, especially formulated for riders seeking an organised adventure in the Sahara, not to mention those riders seeking sunnier climes during the depths of a European winter!

The Africa Trail Raid will be held during the last week of February 2015. Riders will test their roadbook navigation skills by completing a series of challenging off-road stages against the desert backdrop of the southern Morocco Sahara.

There are many riders that come to the desert of Morocco with desire to explore its infinite tracks with their trail motorbikes. The vastness of the desert suggests respect. Determination and responsibility is needed to go there.

It's very important to note the time of the year in which you want to ride the Moroccan Sahara. Warmer times require more hydration, although you should never underestimate the need for water, nor in colder times. Bring a 2 litres Camelbak on your back will help you to be well hydrated. For long journeys through the desert carries a supplement of four litres more.

The international meeting for riders and travelers in the Sahara desert is coming again. Last year, we had many participants who visited Morocco for the first time. We love to hear that this meeting is a good excuse to discover this special corner in the planet. Those who have already been there, want to come back.

The spirit of R2R Meeting is to approach the reality of Africa and enjoy the delights of the desert, some of which are hidden.

Some days ago, Simona and I, met Jonathan Blackburn, an english Rider wanting to discover Africa.

Among other things, Jonathan told us about the slow process of disconnection of his previous routine (work, rush, ...). He is in Morocco for a week and it still remain in the country a few days more. That reminded me I lived the same situation when started my african journey. I was two week in the desert and I could completely decompress. So I continued my journey with a natural rhythm.

Apparently, the Red Zebra has decided to do an European solo tour. It's now in the port of Rotterdam. The responsible of clearing the bike in Antwerp mixed two bikes and they sent mine to Rotterdam, and the BMW R1200 GS Adventure, wich belongs to a Dutch guy, to Barcelona.

Ayso, the Dutch rider, has contacted me through the Ride To Roots website. He explained me that, when he went to get his bike to the port of Rotterdam and opened the box, he found another motorbike. Mine! I saw his bike in South Africa before it was shipped. :)

Today, the beloved Red Zebra, has departed to Barcelona, by boat from Cape Town. They have almost five months of intense traveling with her, crossing from north to south Africa.

I remember early in the trip, after a year of frenetic and complicated work, I needed a rest of two weeks at La Baraka, in Merzouga. I was among friends in decompression days. It was necessary as it was beginning a long trip and ran the risk of accumulated stress distort the experiences that awaited me.

All travelers who ride the Trans-Africa to the west side of the continent, have some respect for the Congo. Crossing the Congo during rainy season is not easy. Mud is the main character.

In Calabar, Nigeria, I met another rider, Veysel Bayam. Veysel is from Turkey and left Istambul more than six months ago with his Yamaha Ténéré 660, well equipped with Touratech accessories, like suitcases Zega Pro. Other than our passion for motorcycles, life, travel and Touratech accessories, we also share the same destination, Cape Town.
